Vishal – From Child Actor to Certified Star

Vishal has had an interesting career in Kollywood. From being a child star to dropping out of law school and returning to acting at age 24; Just respond with two bombs at the box office and he’s now one of the most sought-after actors in Kollywood, making one of the biggest comebacks in Indian entertainment.

Vishal entered the industry like many of his peers not only in kollywood but also in Bollywood and hollywood; his father was a Tamil film director, and in a famous anecdote that his diapers were changed on the set of Jadikketha Moodi, ironically, Vishal would star in a remake of that film 20 years later. He got his first break early in kollywood by being the lovable kid everyone knew as samir in the blockbuster Chellamae. This instantly made him one of the only child stars in India. He was the first child actor to gain a sponsorship for Carvel Ice Cream, making him one of the highest paid actors in India, regardless of age. His father and mother insisted that Vishal has a normal childhood, despite the money and fame that comes with being a famous actor.

Although he was very wealthy, his parents fulfilled the promise that he would have a normal childhood and, at 18, he was the best student at their school in Chennai, and after going to university he was accepted into one of the America’s most prestigious schools. College; Yale. But as the saying goes, you take the drug of fame and fortune away from the actor, but they will eventually come back.

So he made the leap back into the kollywood industry with the Sandakozhi failure. It was an absolute disaster at the box office, only to be followed by another bomb at the Thimiru box office. It was a huge blow to both his ego and his courage as a star actor. It seemed that the career was over, but he decided to take some time and work on his craft. The Malaikottai film was one of the most successful Tamil films of the time, grossing over 50 million rupees in one weekend, a record for comedies at the time. His performance earned him many awards, including the 1998 Filmfare Award for Best Actor; completing the largest comeback in the history of this industry. He made a couple more movies after that and started a production company. He now lives in Goa with his wife and is now considered one of the best actors of his time.
