There seems to be a lot of hype around women’s bodybuilding these days, you can even watch competitions on ESPN. Most people tend to think that female bodybuilding is something that only a few women are interested in, and that all of these women look like a female version of Arnold Schwarzenegger. But it’s much more than that.

Female bodybuilding is more about physical fitness, weight loss, and overall good health. Many women turn to bodybuilding as a way to lose weight. Fat turns to muscle, excess weight melts away, and the weight left behind is healthy, toned muscle, so you look even leaner and healthier than other people at the same weight level.

Basically, losing weight is quite simple. You need to burn more calories than you take in, and this is where female bodybuilding comes in handy. By burning calories with training, you may end up burning more calories than you take in. Plus, muscle will burn more calories than flab, so you get an added benefit.

A good workout will boost your metabolism so your body will continue to burn calories long after your workout is over, so you’ll get an added benefit too.

Many female bodybuilders find that doing some weight training and strength training along with aerobics can burn more calories than just doing the aerobics on its own. It’s a big one two punch so to speak, aerobic exercises for heart and lung conditioning, weight training for muscle development and tone.

It used to be unusual to see a woman exercise by lifting weights, but now it’s becoming more common. Most likely, the woman is not trying to become the next Mrs. Olympia, but she is just trying to lose weight and tone up.

A woman who exercises tends to have fewer health problems, such as colds, and when she does get sick, recovery time also tends to be faster. This is another great reason why all women should exercise.

So remember, a toned body is not only a sexy body, but also a healthy body.
