The Ultimate XPS: High-End Multimedia Laptop

Performance

For starters, you can choose from four new generation Intel® Dual-Core processors, all of which deliver significantly improved system performance compared to the original Intel® Dual-Core series. And to match them is one of the best graphics cards, the NVIDIA® GeForceTM, along with ample memory of up to 4GB that won’t let you down.

screen and sound

The display that showcases this power and performance is the 17″ UltraSharpTM Widescreen WUXGA (1920×1200) with TrueLifeTM. It’s 30% brighter than Dell’s previous XPS model monitor and displays 77% more content than a standard WXGA+ from Dell. 17″. The result is a display that gives you remarkably clear text and images backed up by a sound system that has a built-in subwoofer to provide volume and clarity.

blu ray

Of course, an exceptional monitor and audio system is exactly what you need, especially if you opt to install a Blu-Ray (BD) optical drive. When combined with NVIDIA® PureVideoTM graphics enhancement, Blu-Ray discs give you picture quality that far exceeds that of ordinary DVDs.

That said, your DVDs aren’t redundant on the XPS M1710. You can still play them and use them to record text and images. However, a Blu-Ray disc stores up to 25GB of data compared to 4.7GB for a DVD.

MediaDirectTM

You can view the material on these optical drive discs, Blu-Ray or DVD, without turning on the XPS M1710 in the conventional way. Instead, with the computer turned off, Dell’s MediaDirectTM button lets you view your data on the hard drive, on discs, through a USB port, and from media placed in the 5-in-1 card slot. And for security, there’s a password function to stop unwanted access.

Other dynamic features

This technology is impressive, but the XPS M1710 also has something unique: ambient lighting. You can link 16 flashing and pulsing colors to your music or you can simply turn on the lights to create preset effects like chasing and fading. It is also possible to connect the lighting system to the games so that a fire on the screen, for example, generates a red and orange glow.

These special effects might suggest that the XPS M1710 is a fragile machine. Rather, this is a notebook that uses Dell’s RoadReadyTM technology. The rugged black metallic exterior and internal StrikeZoneTM shock absorber that protects the hard drive ensure the XPS M1710 is built to last.

All these features certainly attract attention. And together they make the XPS M1710 a laptop to reckon with.
