South Padre Island Texas

South Padre Island, Texas is a small beach resort town in far eastern Cameron County in the Rio Grande Valley. Located in the tropical tip of Texas, it is located between Laguna Madre Bay and the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. The tropical temperature and the availability of endless opportunities make the city a destination for the whole year. The city offers a variety of accommodations including family motels, campgrounds, condo rentals, hotels, seaside cottages, and marinas.

The Spanish explorer Alonso Álvarez de Pineda was one of the first to arrive on the island. The city had been sparsely populated until the early 1900s. The city rose to prominence as a tourist spot in the second half of the 20th century. Today, South Padre is frequented not only by Texans, but by people from all over the world. The city’s main claim to fame is as a spring break destination. More and more people are realizing that South Padre is truly a tourist destination for all seasons.

With only about 3,000 year-round residents, South Padre is an ideal resort town for those who appreciate solitude. The island is home to some 300 species of birds. Every imaginable type of water sports is available on the shores. These include deep sea fishing, parasailing, bay fishing, windsurfing, and sailing. Other activities include sightseeing, miniature golf, shopping, movies, and fun games. Spring, summer, and late winter are the best seasons to visit.

Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark, one of the most famous water parks in the United States, is located in this town. Other attractions include Osprey Fishing Trips, Island Equestrian Center, Andy Bowie County Park, and South Padre Island Golf Club.
