President Obama provides free federal student aid to single mothers

I remember when I went to college that getting an education was still an affordable possibility. After a while, I got my AA in business administration and followed that up at a four-year state university with a bachelor’s degree. Most of this was paid for with Pell Grants and other funds made available to me through various programs. Student loans weren’t necessary until I moved on to my master’s.

Some people fall into a limbo category where they want to get a college education but can’t due to previous commitments or possibly because they are single parents. President Obama’s administration has now made it possible for mothers with children trying to fend for themselves to apply for and receive thousands of dollars in federal grants so they can earn a college degree and improve their financial situation.

Today, the amount of money you receive from federal funds is small compared to the amount you must pay in tuition at most major colleges and universities. Most students find themselves buried in tens of thousands of dollars in debt, with no end in sight depending on the degree they earned and the job or career they landed along the way.

In 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or Recovery Act. This Act provides nearly $12 billion in funding for various programs. Part of this is the ‘Moms Return to School’ government grant scholarship.

The requirements include being a single parent with children and having a financial need. There are literally millions of dollars waiting to serve women who might need a helping hand as they move towards a better way of life for themselves and their families.
