Lessons from the Croods movie

A kind friend of mine called me recently for a movie.

I am not a regular movie buff, however I was happy and grateful to accept my friend’s offer.

I had a fantastic day watching the Croods which is a 3D computer animated adventure comedy film written and directed by Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders.

With a cup of Venti Starbuck Green Tea with Milk, which is my favorite beverage of all time, I was ready to be entertained by the Dreamworks animated movie.

All thanks to my friend’s movie gift, I got more than I bargained for! The movie is not only entertaining, it is also very inspiring and I have learned some life lessons from the 98 minute animated film.

Here are some life lessons from the Croods:

1) Be adaptable

The life we are living today is definitely not the life we can live in the future. There is a whole new world of possibilities. In the movie, Grug the caveman resists change and doesn’t want to leave his home cave, until an earthquake destroys it. He and his family were forced to find a new environment where they discovered new possibilities and experienced different adventures.

2) Be creative in overcoming obstacles

Life is like an adventure, you will have dark moments, you will have wonderful moments, yet each of those moments will add to the richness of color in your life. From the movie, I’ve learned to never be afraid to try new things. In their new environment, the Croods faced some challenges, however, a clever cave boy named Guy always finds ways to overcome his obstacles. One of Guy’s several inventions is creating shoes to protect his feet from sharp rocks.

3) Be open-minded

At the beginning of the show, Grug feels that he is the head of the family, therefore, everyone must listen to him, follow his instructions, and comply with his instructions.

Eventually, later in the movie, he realized that he doesn’t have all the answers, he needs other people’s opinions, feedback and an open mind to listen to other people’s ideas. For personal growth to occur, we need to be open to different perspectives, opinions, and advice from others. Wonderful things can happen when we are open to change.

4) Don’t take things for granted

We often forget to tell our loved ones: “I love you.” “I appreciate you” before we realize it’s too late. Never take your loved ones for granted, show them gratitude by not only taking care of them but telling them that they are appreciated and loved.
