History of the Celine Luggage Bag

French luxury fashion house Celine began as a children’s shoe boutique in 1945 by designer Celine Vipiana. As the business became successful, Celine ventured into new areas, including making women’s shoes, clothing, and bags. Handbags in particular were loved and adored by both the middle class and the rich and famous alike, and following the appointment of designers such as Michael Kors and Phoebe Philo, the brand has established itself over the years as one of the major brands in the world, expanding to Paris and recently to New York.

Celine luxury items are synonymous with craftsmanship, class and elegance, and one of the most celebrated designs is the luggage bag, created by designer Phoebe Philo (Philo is known for her creativity, having also designed the Paddington bag for Chloe) and since its debut in 2010 it has been dubbed ‘It bag’ and the trend continues to this day.

Philo presented 3 lines of basic bags, Cabbas, Luggage and Classic. These were simplified styles that had no logo but were easily distinguished by their identifiable shape. Each season, Celine releases new variations, sometimes customizing them for specific regions of the world or for certain retailers.

The luggage bag, also known to some as the Boston bag, has a large, roomy square body that flares slightly towards the top, with a zippered top opening and dual top handles. Details include signature rippled leather trims to the front, an external zip pocket and winged side flaps. The interior is lined in suede and leather, and to add to its versatility, it comes with a detachable shoulder strap. The only logo is a small gold etched Celine Paris logo on the front at the top between the lugs. The luggage bag comes in 5 sizes, nano 20cm, micro 26cm, mini 30cm, shoulder and phantom 35cm and also in a wide range of different colours, from neon pink to monochromatic, tricolor red, white and black.

Celine’s Fall 2014 handbags that hit the runway this March were not consumer friendly. With large buttons and no seams or the construction was such that it exposed the contents of the interior. Thus giving an indication of what we can expect in stores in the future, a more user-friendly luggage bag, with worn hardware, calf hair and exposed seams.

Celine’s must-have luggage tote is an expensive addition to your wardrobe. Prices range from £400 to over £2,000 depending on the size and materials used. A bag that only a few can afford, but don’t despair as there are plenty of renowned designers making fabulous similar bags with the style and homage to the tote bag that are crafted by artisans in luxurious Italian leathers, which will look fabulous and will last a lifetime. . But also beware of fakes, which are poorly made in large numbers in the Far East and pretend to be originals with fake logos.
