Verlyn and Cindy Bourne have owned and maintained the motel for the past fifteen years. One of the last Mom & Pop’s in the Black Hills, The Lazy U is a true gem. They have given the small motel a charm that is rare in today’s bustling world. Parked out front, you’re greeted by a 1954 Chevy pickup, complete with The Lazy U logo. Cindy’s grandfather owned the new truck and she learned to drive it. You can find Cindy taking her to the farmer’s market or grocery store. Restored from an old farm truck to The Lazy U Mascot, the Bournes are always happy to use it for photographic backgrounds.

Transported back in time as you enter the lobby. You’ll find reasonable prices and friendly faces. A personal hello from the family awaits: Cindy, Verlyn or Cindy’s cousin Jackie. Travelers can enjoy a cool drink and lively conversation and an abundance of maps and brochures. After check-in, receive a royal key with a sparkling turquoise retro keychain. The Bournes and their family members are happy to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

You will feel at home and part of the family. Enjoy sparkling rooms, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and parking in front of your room. Verlyn, the Routemaster, or one of his deputies will be happy to plan your day trips. Walk, bike or visit the beautiful sites and attractions of The Black Hills. Enjoy the most comfortable night’s sleep one can hope for away from home. The beds, recently and frequently changed with new sets of pillows, will leave you wanting to sleep. Spotlessly clean sheets and fluffy towels will help you feel pampered. Hair dryers are available at reception, but you will need to bring your own shampoo. The family forgoes expensive toiletries for cheap lodging.
