Mike Tyson’s training schedule: could I follow it?

Mike Tyson is something of a legend to many bodybuilders. Many have expressed a desire to know about “Iron Mike’s” daily routine. Based on what we found out, you’ll have to get up early if you want to follow in his footsteps!

This routine was listed on several websites and while I’m not 100% sure of its validity, it seems to be what is considered your daily schedule.

o 5 am: Wake up and go for a 3 mile jog
o 6am: Back home to shower and then to bed (great exercise for those big legs of yours)
o 10am: Wake up and eat oatmeal
12:00 pm: work in the ring (10 rounds of combat)
o 2pm: Eat another meal (steak and pasta with fruit juice drink)
o 4pm: More ring work and 60 minutes on the stationary bike (again working those legs for endurance and

force)
o 17:00: floor exercises: 2000 sit-ups; 500-800 dives; 500 push-ups and 500 shrugs with a 30 kg bar

and 10 min of neck exercises (working biceps, triceps, chest, abs and shoulders)
o 7:00 pm: Back to steak and pasta with fruit juice (probably orange juice)
o 8:00 p.m.: Another 30 minutes on the exercise bike
or 9:30 Watch TV and then go to bed

Mike Tyson’s training program may or may not be for you. In fact, some bodybuilders don’t like running as it uses up the nutrients and energy they want to save for building muscle. If you do both without a long break in between, you can end up losing muscle when you burn the nutrients. There are bodybuilders who run, don’t get me wrong. Running develops muscle fiber in the legs, it is best to rest after training before running.

As for Mike’s diet, oatmeal is a good choice. Steak, if it is lean, is also good. Pasta? Well, there are mixed opinions about eating pasta, but you should definitely avoid pasta made with white flour. Whole wheat is a good carbohydrate for a bodybuilder. According to the list provided it is missing essential fats. You should consume healthy, unsaturated fats such as oily fish, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and flax seed oils. Eating 5-7 small meals throughout the day has also been shown to be a much better plan than just three meals.

While your routing may have worked for “Iron Mike,” you’ll have to decide if Mike Tyson’s training program is right for you.
