He was born in Detroit, Michigan in October 12, 1921. His real name was Arthur Clokey.

Clokey gained his popularity thanks to the famous film Gumbasia which he produced in association with his wife Ruth. This movie had a special claymation character named “Gumby” who got center stage not only in the short film but also in the hearts of viewers.

Gumbasia was a short film of 3 minutes 34 seconds in length. It was the couple’s first foray into the field of claymation. Since then, Gumby and his horse Pokey have had a popular presence on various television shows. Today, Gumby’s popularity has grown to such an extent that many cartoon channels have featured the character on their television shows. The appearance of the special character of Art Clokey in the television series began with “Howdy Doody Show” and then The “Adventures of Gumby”.
