A birthday is more than balloons: involve the children so that they are part of the preparation of the birthday decorations

For a child, nothing can be more exciting and attractive than his own birthday. They look forward to this day all year long with enough anticipation and joy. We often keep them away from the planning and preparation of this special day for fear that they will ruin everything. On the other hand, if we involve them in the preparation of the birthday decoration, they will not only be more committed, but they will also learn some values and ethics from an early age, such as assuming responsibilities and decisions, taking out their creative side, etc. This is the time when children are most likely to help with additional motivation. Also, if certain responsibilities are assigned to them, this feeling will evoke within them that their opinion is important to the elders. Below are some ways you can involve your children in preparing the birthday decorations.

1. Party theme: Gone are the days when birthday party meant just cutting cake and blowing up balloons, today, like any other party, birthday parties are also planned based on various themes. Asking your child to choose the theme for their birthday can make them much happier. Tell them that they are in charge of deciding the theme and then they will also have to plan the decorations based on the theme. This can help bring out the most creative and imaginative side of your child. You might even be surprised by the innovative topics they come up with.

2. Make creative invitation cards: What could be better than a DIY handwritten invitation card? Add a personal touch to the whole process of inviting people. Ask the little one to make the invitation card and draw on it, or decorate it with glitter, stickers, etc. and write the invitation inside the card. Watch the child put extra effort into writing as this card will be received by his friends and his parents.

3. Decorations: Accessories can be made that can be interesting for children, such as king and queen crowns, magic wands, masks, etc. Making a piñata is another great idea that you can ask your kids to make with some help and supervision of course. You can also encourage your kids to watch any DIY tutorial video and create it.

4. Sweets: Who doesn’t love sweets? Ask him to help you prepare them. Since they love sweets, they will be equally interested in the process of making them. This can also encourage your child’s cooking skills.

5. Handmade Return Gift: Instead of wrapping some store-bought gifts, it would be much better to make some gifts at home. You can give your child ideas and instructions for making gifts and he/she can bring her own craft skills and creativity. Giving handmade gifts to your guests will also make them think that a lot of thought and effort has gone into the gifts and this will impress them.

Apart from the above, you can also involve your kids in taking care of the guests and ask them if they are enjoying the party or not etc. Children always enjoy doing things that are fun and letting them participate in their own birthday party can make them happier as they play an important role in it and this feeling makes them get involved in the process with much more enthusiasm.
