Review – Ben Greenfield Dominator Triathlon Training Package

Ben Greenfield, the triathlon coach who created the program, focuses on making the most gains with the least amount of time spent training. Naturally, I gravitated toward his plan when it comes to preparing for a triathlon of any length. We exchanged emails and a few phone calls and I really like where he’s coming from with his approach. As a trainer, I can’t train everyone and the reality is that while my prices are good for what you get, not everyone can afford the cost of a personal trainer. He was looking for a triathlon program that he could recommend that would allow him to get the best information in one package. Unlike many trainers, he handles all facets of preparation, including sport-specific training, cross-training, flexibility, daily nutrition, and race nutrition.

Unlike many books that talk about concepts, Ben presents a 9-month plan to prepare you for your triathlons. While the issue is the length of Ironman, it’s easy to adjust the schedule for shorter distance events. It even tells you how to do this as part of the package. Most training books tend to overload people with information and you are left trying to figure out how to put it all together yourself. The Triathlon Dominator package takes the guesswork out of the process. It shows you what to do in training, what to eat and how to approach race day.

Of particular note is the depth you gain with daily and race nutrition. This is an area that many people get confused with, so by just presenting it in an easy to follow way, Ben has made it easy for you to dial in your nutrition. He provides you with shopping lists, menus, and how to calculate how much you need. Your nutritional needs vary during the training season, so he has adapted the diet to these needs. You will have much less trial and error and see faster progress. Nutrition makes up at least 50% of your endurance performance, so this is a key area to get right.

By focusing on synergy, you can guide yourself to great results without giving up the rest of your life. Each workout has a goal to get the most out of your workout without wasting time or effort. This is beneficial because you can fit it into your schedule and it gives you more time to recover compared to people who do 15-20 hours per week. Some of this is offbeat, but that’s what makes it work. Increasing the workload through intensity and synergy.

Also, Ben is very easy to communicate with, so feel free to email with questions. He will get back to you quickly and is very helpful. He is dedicated to helping athletes improve their performance.
