5 top tips for choosing the best laptop

It is always a difficult decision to decide which laptop to choose from the wide range of options available. I remember spending almost half a month before deciding on the best option. To be honest, I don’t want you to go through such long decision-making periods when choosing your laptop. Here are some tips that will go a long way in helping you choose the best laptop from the available options.

1. Check the model and year of the processor:

Often people settle for a laptop in a cheaper price range that comes with an older processor model. Settling for a cheaper model may be good for your wallet but not really good for your works. Older processors have less processing power and more often than not have a hard time supporting the latest applications like Photoshop. Where as if you could get a laptop with a much newer processor model for a slightly higher price, then it’s worth a try. You should know that the newer the processor the better and most people prefer Intel’s range of processors over other companies. But I’ll leave the option open to you in this case.

2. Check RAM and model:

I remember seeing many laptops that offer 3GB of DDR2 RAM and come in the same price range as models that offer 2GB or even 1GB of DDR3 RAM. Normally one would settle for the model with DDR2 Ram, but it is not a wise decision. The latest Ram models provide better performance for your laptops. Also look for a newer version of ram and it has been said that 1GB of DDR3 Ram offers the same performance as 2GB of DDR2 Ram. So know your ram version better.

3. Check the display screen:

I know we used to love LCD, now LCD has been further enhanced with LED backlight, which proved to reduce power consumption with much better performance. Also laptops with LED screens bring a better life. Touchscreens can be cool and exciting, but to be honest, how effectively can you use them on a laptop? Don’t you think touchpad and keyboard provide a better user experience compared to touch screens and on-screen keyboard?

4. Hard drive capacity and speed:

Hard drives come with two different capacities of 5400 RPS and 7200 RPS and you can say yourself without hesitation that 7200 RPS hard drives are better. The reason is that it is able to transfer data faster on the 5400 RPS model. If you dig a little deeper, you’ll know that most late-model laptops offer the latter. Also make a wise choice about the capacity of the hard drive. Larger capacity hard drives are good, but think twice before making a decision. I remember buying a laptop with 500GB capacity but I barely used 50GB of disk space. Settling for a smaller capacity hard drive may not be a bad idea if your usage is lower.

5. Battery life:

Most 15-inch laptops come with a battery life of 2.5 to 3 hours in general. Although the company promises 3.5 hours of battery life, you should be very clear about the fact that your laptop battery lasts only 2.5-3 hours when fully charged. The 14-inch comes with a bit more battery life, but be sure to check out reviews of this one from those who already own the model you want to buy.

There are many other factors that you want to consider when buying a laptop, but these five are really essential things that you should pay some attention to.
